CRISPIG: Now a Protected Trademark in the Philippines

A strong food brand is not just about flavour. It is also about identity, trust, and the memories it creates for customers. While many think trademark protection is only for big fast-food chains, the truth is that every unique local food business can benefit from securing its name.

From its humble beginnings as a small kiosk, CRISPIG has steadily grown into multiple thriving branches. This journey shows that local food brands can expand successfully while keeping their heart and character intact.

Therefore, registering a trademark becomes essential. It not only safeguards the hard-earned value of a brand but also ensures that protection stays in place as the business grows and reaches new audiences.

The Story Behind CRISPIG

Angela Briones founded CRISPIG after the success of its mother brand, Manang’s Café. Building on that momentum, she created CRISPIG as a food kiosk concept designed with students in mind. The aim was to offer simple, savoury, and affordable meals that bring comfort and convenience to busy diners.

Moreover, Angela drew inspiration from the fact that every Asian country has its own version of crispy roast pork or lechon kawali. As a result, she developed her own unique recipe paired with homemade gravy crafted to suit the Filipino palate, especially the taste preferences of younger customers.

In addition, the CRISPIG menu blends tradition with modern appeal. The signature crispy roast pork is slow-cooked and oven-baked to perfection, then served with rich, savoury gravy. The crispy sisig rice bowl combines roast pork bits, caramelised onions, and green chillies, all topped with a flavourful sisig sauce. Furthermore, for those seeking variety, baked chicken wings provide a lighter yet equally satisfying option, coated in bold, flavour-packed sauces.

What truly sets CRISPIG apart is its healthier cooking approach. All products are slow-cooked, baked, and roasted without using oil. Consequently, customers enjoy the crisp texture and rich flavour they love, but with a health-conscious twist.

Since its opening in December 2025, CRISPIG has expanded to four locations and plans are already underway to open the brand for franchising in early 2026.

Equally important, the CRISPIG trademark is displayed consistently across store signages, menus, boxes, food packaging, and social media content. This unified presence ensures that customers recognise the brand instantly, whether they encounter it in person or online.

Why Trademark Protection Matters for CRISPIG

In July 2025, CRISPIG secured its trademark registration in the Philippines under Class 43 for restaurant, takeaway, and catering services. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the brand and its owner. It provides legal protection for the name CRISPIG against low-quality imitations.

More importantly, a trademark is the foundation for brand consistency. Whenever customers see the logo, whether on a storefront, delivery box, online menu, or social media post, they know they can expect the same quality and experience they trust. In turn, this consistency builds recognition, and recognition fuels loyalty.

Without trademark protection, a brand risks fading into the background among countless generic sellers. It becomes just another name, easily forgotten and harder for customers to find again. On the other hand, with a trademark in place, a business stands out and stays top of mind. Customers can discover it more easily, remember it longer, and recommend it to friends whenever cravings strike for sisig or roast pork.

Additionally, trademark protection grants the legal power to stop copycats from using similar names or logos. This safeguard protects the goodwill that takes years to build.
